In Week 4 of Term 2 the two Year 12 Legal Studies classes met in Adelaide City for an excursion to the courts of Adelaide City and Parliament House. In the morning, we attended the District Court. We observed a sentencing submissions procedure during which we witnessed first-hand the importance of our courts being open to the public. We then went to the Magistrate Courts and saw a variety of proceedings, as well as a Magistrate with a good sense of humor and a patient demeanor. In the afternoon we visited Parliament House as a guest of the newly elected Member for Unley and State Cabinet Minister the Hon. Alice Rolls MP. During Question Time we saw representative and responsible government at work as the government and the opposition robustly discussed several important and some seemingly less important issues of the day. It was a good day of immersion in our state legal system.
