Dr Jared Thomas Author Visit

We began our Reconciliation week activities a little early this year with a whole College incursion by Nukunu (of the Southern Flinders Ranges) author Dr Jared Thomas. Dr Thomas is the South Australian Museum Research Fellow – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Material Culture and Art, the Adelaide University Coordinator of Indigenous Collections and Archives, and an internationally recognised author of several books for children and young adults.

91ÖÆƬ students across all three campuses attended a presentation where he shared sections of his books and spoke about the importance of caring for Country, both land and sea. With the older students he spoke about challenging topics such as stereotypes and racism. In sessions with younger students he told dreaming stories, and shared his experience working with Patty Mills on their collaboration Game Day, as well as writing the Uncle X Box series. It was a huge honour to learn from such a talented and knowledgeable person.
